1. Gender Identification by Word Endings 

a. Feminine: 

 Nouns ending in : -sion, -tion, -aison, -ance, -ence, -te´, -ude, -ale, -ole, -ie and -ure are usually feminine. 

 la version: translation 
 la nation : nation 

 la terminaison: ending

 la connaissance: knowledge 

 la patience : patience 

 la beauté: beauty 

 la certitude : certainty 
 la plénitude : plenitude 

 la cathédrale: cathedral 

 la photographie: photography 
 la philosophie: philosophy 

 la parole: word 

 la culture: culture 
 la facture: bill 

 b. Masculine: 

 Nouns ending in -asme, -isme, -eau, -ment and -acle are usually masculine. 

 I’enthousiasme: enthusiasm 
 le sarcasme: sarcasm 

 le classicisme: classicism 

 le couteau: knife 

 I’enseignement: teaching, education 
 le gouvernement: government 

 le spectacle: show, performance 

 2. Complete the following sentences with the definite article le, la or I’. 
For each word beginning with a vowel, indicate whether it is masculine or feminine by writing I’(f.) or I’(m.).

 1. prononciation et intonation sont importantes dans étude des langues. 
 2. Elle étudie classicisme, romantisme, symbolisme et civilisation française.
 3. Ils admirent beauté de peinture.

Today, I would like to tell you about Expression Français à dévorer concernant le thème " La tête".

Thème 1: La tête
1. En avoir par-dessus la tête
Ne plus supporter quelqu'un ou quelque chose
Exemple: Mes voisins sont trop bruants, j'en ai par-dessus la tête. 
On peut aussi dire: être excédé, en avoir assez, en avoir marre. 

2. N'avoir ni queue ni tête / Sans queue ni tête
Se dit de quelque chose qui n'a aucun sens, qui ne veut rien dire. 
Exemple: Je n'ai rien compris au film que je viens de voir, il ne veut rien dire, il n'a vraiment ni queue ni tête. C'est un film sans queue ni tête. 
On peut aussi dire: C'est incompréhensive.

3. Prendre la tête:
Devenir fou. Ne plus savoir ce que l'on fait. 
Exemple : Le grand-père de Pierre commence à perdre la tête, Il perd tout. Il oublie tout. 
Verbe: Perdre: Verbe du troisième groupe
Participle passé: perdu: Il a perdu la tête.

Au présent: 

Je perds
Tu perds
Il perd...

Today can place before or after the sentence. 

+ avoir mal à la tête: to have a headache. 
    Elle a mal à la tête. 
    She has a headache. 

+ Tombé amoureux (-se) de quelqu'un : to fall in love with sb
   Je suis tombée amoureuse de Jésus. 
   I have fallen in love with Jésus. 

- Imitate the voice that you heard. 
- Register your voice and then save the file. 
- Compare your voice with their voice. 
- Repeat the pratique when you can speak the phrase or the sentence naturally. 

It is important to learn by heart phrases you like, a dialogue, and then you rewrite or speak the topic as you can imagine. It helps you to learn English with your creative ideas.

Today, I would like to tell you about:"Gender and the Definite Article" that the content is taken in a book "Schaum's Outline of French Grammar by the McGră-Hill Companies Inc.

Gender and the Definite Article

Singular Forums

All French nous, unlike English noun, have a gender. Every noun is either masculine or femmine. Nouns that refer specifically to males (people or animals), such as father, son, etc,...are masculine. Those that refer to femalé (people or animals), such as mother, daughter, ect.., are feminine. For most other nouns, gender is usually arbitrary and must be memorized.

The definite article (the) that accompanies masculine nouns is le. La accompanies feminine nouns. L' is used before masculine or feminine nouns beginning with a vowed or silent h.

Masculine
  • Le gaçon :                 boy, cậu bé
  • Le frère :                   brother, anh trai
  • Le père:                    father, bố
  • Le chien:                   dog, con chó
  • Le chat:                     cat, con mèo
  • Le musée:                 museum, viện bảo tàng
  • Le marché:                market, chợ, siêu thị
  • le salon:                     living room, phòng khách
  • l'ami:                          (male) friend bạn trai
  • l'homme:                    man người đàn ông

Feminine: 
  • la fille:                        girl con gái
  • la soeur                      sister chị, em gái
  • la mère                       mother mẹ
  • la chienne                   dog con chó cái
  • la chatte                      cat con mèo nhỏ
  • la plage                       beach biển
  • la boutique                  shop cửa hàng
  • la chambre                  bedroom phòng ngủ
  • l'amie                          (female) friend bạn gái
  • l'épée                          sword lưỡi kiếm, lưỡi giáo

But: 
  • le héros :                        hero anh hùng
  • le haricot:                       bean quả đậu, quả đỗ

Exercises:

1. Complète the following with the correct form of the dèinite article le, la or l':
  1. .......garçon joue avec.......chatte dans ........salon.
  2. .......père prépare ....diner à ......maison.
  3. .......professeur enseigne .......histoire, .......anglais, ........géographie et ........philosophie.
